Kexi - Databases for Everyone

Kexi is a modern, easy to use application for visual database design for Linux and MS Windows. It can be used for designing and implementing databases, data inserting and sharing, migration and processing, and performing queries.

Rich Applications with Database Support

For scalability, the application can connect to relational database servers such as PostgreSQL and MySQL. Kexi can also work without a server, by utilizing built-in SQLite database engine, allowing users to store data and design in a single file that can be easily published or e-mailed.

All database objects - tables, queries, forms, etc. - are stored in the database, making it easy to share data and design as simple as sharing single file.

Forms can be created to provide a custom interface to your data. Simple reports can be previewed and printed.

Kexi is positioned to fill the gap between spreadsheets and database solutions requiring more sophisticated development.

Additional Features

Scripting using Python and Ruby is in experimental stage as well as application macros, similar to those in Microsoft Access. These features are available on Linux/Unix and are planned for MS Windows.

A Unique Project

Kexi is known from its interoperability with other applications and data formats. It contains fine CSV import and export functions and Microsoft Access migration assistant for database tables, being a unique solution on the market.

The idea of this product came because of a noticeable lack of applications like Microsoft Access, FoxPro, Oracle Forms or FileMaker that are powerful enough, inexpensive, open-standards-driven and highly portable between many operating systems and hardware platforms.

Kexi is a member of the KDE Desktop Environment and KOffice suite. It works under Linux/Unix, Microsoft Windows as well as Mac OS X (using Fink) and Solaris operating systems.
